<tr><td class="diff-marker" data-marker="−"></td><td style="color: #202122; font-size: 88%; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px 1px 1px 4px; border-radius: 0.33em; border-color: #ffe49c; vertical-align: top; white-space: pre-wrap;"><div> </div></td><td class="diff-marker" data-marker="+"></td><td style="color: #202122; font-size: 88%; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px 1px 1px 4px; border-radius: 0.33em; border-color: #a3d3ff; vertical-align: top; white-space: pre-wrap;"><div><ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;"> <p class="HindiText">यद्यपि `शक' शब्दका प्रयोग संवत्-सामान्यके अर्थ में भी किया जाता है, जैसे वर्द्धमान शक, विक्रम शक, शालिवाहन शक इत्यादि, और कहीं-कहीं विक्रम संवत्को भी शक संवत् मान लिया जाता है, परन्तु जिस `शक' की चर्चा यहाँ करनी इष्ट है वह एक स्वतन्त्र संवत् है। यद्यपि आज इसका प्रयोग प्रायः लुप्त हो चुका है, तदपि किसी समय दक्षिण देशमें इस ही का प्रचार था, क्योंकि दक्षिण देशके आचार्यों द्वारा लिखित प्रायः सभी शास्त्रोंमें इसका प्रयोग देखा जाता है। इतिहासकारोंके अनुसार भृत्यवंशी गौतमी पुत्र राजा सातकर्णी शालिवाहनने ई. 79 (वी.नि. 606) में शक वंशी राजा नरवाहनको परास्त कर देनेके उपलक्ष्यमें इस संवत्को प्रचलित किया था। जैन शास्त्रोंके अनुसार भी वीर निर्वाणके 605 वर्ष 5 मास पश्चात् शक राजाकी उत्पत्ति हुई थी। इससे प्रतीत होता है कि शकराजको जीत लेनेके कारण शालिवाहनका नाम ही शक पड़ गया था, इसलिए कहीं कहीं शालिवाहन संवत् को ही शक संवत् कहने की प्रवृत्ति चल गई, परन्तु वास्तवमें वह इससे पृथक् एक स्वतंत्र संवत् है जिसका उल्लेख नीचे किया गया है। प्रचलित शक संवत् वीर-निर्वाणके 605 वर्ष पश्चात् और विक्रम संवत्के 135 वर्ष पश्चात् माना गया है।<br></ins></div></td></tr>
